The instinctive first move for most people when looking for Tenerife properties is to try the internet or local newspapers to find an estate agent in Tenerife, not a difficult task as there are a multitude of businesses offering their services. Estate agents in Tenerife have a very different job to estate agents in the UK; for a start they need to be able to speak the local language (Spanish) as well as English added to this is the fact that a large percentage of their clients are here on holiday and don’t know their way around so consequently need much more ‘hand holding’ than they would in their own countries. Studio or studio apartment; these type of Tenerife properties are usually found in the tourist areas in larger apartment blocks consisting of one room that doubles as kitchenette, sitting room and bedroom with a separate small bathroom, this is the cheapest form of letting accommodation and the one that gives the best capital return if one is investing for holiday rentals.

Apartments are simply part of a large block of accommodation, commonly they will have one, two or three bedrooms with access usually being via a common corridor which is often semi exposed to the elements.

Penthouses are simply top floor apartments, usually larger dimensioned, with larger numbers of bedrooms and larger terraces and of course larger prices.

Piso or flat is a term given to a flat as we know it; they normally have an entrance hall accessible to residents only (with letter boxes on the inside so that one cannot leave a letter for someone without gaining access!) with lifts up to a shared hallway, these are intended as residential homes.

Chalet, this is another of those descriptions that has been downgraded by over zealous use; the original accepted meaning being a bungalow with a tall roof containing bedrooms and bathroom. It has become adopted here as an up-market term for a low rise apartment.

Chalet adosado is a terraced house often with a flat roof for drying the washing or sunbathing, simple low cost high density but low level property in Tenerife.

Simplex, Duplex and Triplex; these are really apartments on one, two or three floors. Another example of marketers wanting to make their product sound superior.

Town houses are usually narrow terraced houses built on two or three floors with little or no garden and either parking space or garage at ground level.

Casa or house in Tenerife can signify a great variety of housing, from an old house built in varying sizes and styles, along the village street, to a detached house set in its own grounds.

Fincas in Tenerife have a huge variety of meanings; it can be a simple piece of empty land, land with a derelict house, land with a house or land with more than one house.
